Hi, I’m Alan!

I’m currently a software engineer at Microsoft, where I work on OS power management, with a particular focus on processor power management for next-generation computer architectures. In the fall, I will be starting my PhD in the CSE department at the University of California, San Diego.

Previously, I did my undergrad and MEng at MIT, where I studied computer science and writing. My research interests lie somewhere at the intersection of computer architecture and systems; my MEng thesis focused on hardware acceleration for FPGA routing.

I also do a lot of other things! My poetry has been published in Wild Roof Journal, Seattle Civic Magazine, and Xenolithic Edges (forthcoming), and my plays have been performed as part of the MIT Playwrights Lab and Next Act. You may also find me singing, playing violin or piano, conducting, or walking long distances on the side of the road. I keep a sporadically updated blog on Substack.

what’s here?

The most well-maintained page on this site is the MIT page, which forms a comprehensive breakdown of all the things I did during my time at MIT. The life page aims to achieve a similar purpose, but obviously has a much broader scope. The archive page contains the archives of my first personal blog.
